Caracas has a tropical climate with pleasant weather all year round, as its high altitude ensures mild temperatures. The dry season runs from December to April and is the perfect time for exploring the city´s parks and outdoor areas, while the rainy season, from May to November, is ideal for visiting museums and cultural attractions. Caracas always has something to offer its visitors, regardless of the time of year.
Caracas is served by Simón Bolívar International Airport, which welcomes flights from various cities in Latin America, Europe and the USA. The airport is 30 km away from the city centre and the best way of getting there is by taxi.
Food in Caracas reflects Venezuela´s rich cultural diversity. Try the traditional arepa, and pabellón criollo, a national specialty made with rice, beans, shredded beef and fried bananas. To sweeten the experience, go for bienmesabe, a coconut-based treat, or quesillo, a kind of caramel flan, for dessert.
Despite being a major metropolis, Caracas is surrounded by nature. El Ávila National Park is particularly famous for its many hiking trails and spectacular views of the city and the sea. The cable car to the top of Mount Ávila is a must-see attraction and sports an amazing view of the city. Caracas Botanical Garden, located within the grounds of the Central University of Venezuela, is another green space worth exploring, particularly its vast collection of tropical plants.
