A mountainous area in the north of the island of Santiago, the Malagueta Mountain Range reaches 1,064 metres high. It is ideal for eco-tourism and environmental activities and has a research centre. The area contains the largest number plants that are unique to the island.
Used as a Nazi-inspired concentration camp, Tarrafal was opened in 1936. Political prisoners of the Portuguese “Estado Novo” were exiled here. Nowadays, the site houses the Resistance Museum, which aims to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The warm and crystal-clear waters of Cape Verde are perfect for long diving expeditions. As a crossing point for maritime traffic throughout the centuries, with a rich biodiversity, its waters provide a spectacle including rays, crabs, many species of fish, whales and even shipwrecks.
Also known as the Ponta Temerosa or Praia Lighthouse, it was built in 1881 and named after a Portuguese queen. The view over the endless expanse of the sea and natural pools next to the monument are good enough reasons alone for a visit.
